Overview
The USAID FHN project supports the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) through the Ministry of Health (MOH) to enhance reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, adolescent health, and nutrition (RMNCAH&N) interventions in Muchinga, Luapula, Southern, and Eastern provinces. FHN aims to reduce the maternal mortality rate from 252 to 100 per 100,000 live births and the under-five mortality rate from 61 to 35 per 1,000 live births by strengthening the capacity of the GRZ, communities, and local partners to improve health system accountability and performance for high-quality, accessible RMNCAH&N care.
Objectives
- Improved MOH capacity to deliver high-quality health services at subnational levels.
- Strengthen health systems at national and subnational levels to create an enabling environment for effective RMNCAH&N service delivery.
- Increase community engagement in health service delivery.
Impact
- Conducted 49 technical supportive supervision sessions focused on reducing teenage pregnancy.
- Mentored 173 healthcare workers in the HEADSS approach through zonal mentorship hubs.
- Oriented 85 healthcare workers on the adolescent health package using the HEADSS approach.
- Organised 12 adolescent health wellness days.
- 4 healthcare workers trained in gender transformative approach training.
- 5 technical supportive supervision visits following gender transformative approaches training.
- Facilitated and supported 26 data reviews with community participation.
- 7 gender service delivery assessment of facilities.
- 14 neighbourhood health committee youth leaders trained in SMART advocacy.
- Supported provincial and national adolescent health indabas.
