Women’s Day Celebrations

The month of March is dedicated to celebrating women and girls globally to honor and appreciate them for their social, political and economic contribution to society. Women’s Day is an international holiday which is commemorated on the 8th of March annually to commemorate all acts of love, acts of courage, and acts of sacrifices by the women around us. This year, Women’s Day was celebrated under the theme “Gender Equality today for a Sustainable tomorrow”. As part of our Women’s Day activities, Copper Rose Zambia partnered with WingEd Girls Zambia on their outreach to Nanduba School in Chikankata district of Southern Province and we were so pleased to donate 150 reusable pads towards the pad drive. The outreach was meant to support and empower female adolescent learners with menstrual hygiene kits and information on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) and personal hygiene to the learners.

We also partnered with iSanitize to support and empower female adolescent learners at Muchuto Primary School in Kafue with menstrual hygiene kits which consisted of disposable pads, bathing soap and tissue. During this outreach we were delighted to have shared information to the female adolescent learners on MHM and personal hygiene.

The International Women’s Day Symposium organized by ActionAid Zambia in partnership with Crossroads International and Solidaridad is another event that CRZ  took part in. The International Women’s Day Symposium focused on a number of issues that affect women and girls including climate change. It was discussed that climate change has in the past years affected women in different ways. In relation to Sexual Reproductive and Health and Rights (SRHR), drought and floods were highlighted to be among the key issues  that some women and girls have experienced in terms of difficulties to access menstrual products and cleaning up during such

The symposium was followed by a tree planting ceremony which was held at Kabwata nursery and daycare along Burma road. CRZ was among the organizations that took part in the symbolic exercise of planting trees.

In an ideal world, women should be celebrated frequently to motivate them because when a woman achieves, it paves the way for others and shapes gender attitudes and career aspirations of what women can do.
