Driving Grassroots Action: The Going Beyond Project Rolls Out Community Facilitation Across the Copperbelt

At CRZ, we believe sustainable progress happens when young people are equipped to lead solutions in their own communities. In partnership with Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) and the Mastercard Foundation, the Going Beyond Project is expanding economic opportunities for young Zambians aged 18 to 35 through digital literacy, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Following an intensive training that certified 31 Youth Leaders across the Copperbelt, these facilitators have launched local learning hubs to mentor peers and support local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

In Riverside, Kitwe, Youth Leaders Mbuyaa Wakumbi and Kennedy Chola are demonstrating the power of this rollout on the ground. Mobilizing local youth through digital tools and community-based recruitment, they are guiding participants through the Business Model Canvas alongside essential training in personal mastery, market research, and social media marketing. This hands-on approach equips participants with critical skills like problem-solving and business pitching, enabling them to move confidently from job seekers to job creators.

The immediate impact of this peer-led model is already visible in the neighborhood. After attending a Personal Mastery session, one Riverside participant shared: “I never thought I could speak in front of people or sell an idea, but after the session, I pitched my small business to my neighbours and got my first three customers.”

For facilitators like Mbuyaa, seeing theory turn into real market action is the ultimate proof of success. As step-down sessions continue to scale, CRZ remains proud to stand alongside DOT, The Mastercard Foundation, and our dedicated Youth Leaders to build a resilient, youth-led economic ecosystem across Zambia.
